The main cities in north central Costa Rica are San Jose, Cartago, Alajuela and Heredia.
San Jose is the capital of Costa Rica and most of the homes of downtown are very expensive. The areas of Catedral, El Carmen, La Uruca, San Sebastian, Meire and Pavas being the most expensive. Most of the real estate dealings are for the development of nightclubs and malls etc and so the prices are really expensive. The Escazu are is however recognized as the swankiest. El Rodeo, Santa Ana are also known for their luxury condominiums and apartments. Designer villas have also sprung up in San Jose and several luxury condos have also made their mark in the city. The concept of serviced apartments is also catching up and homes with additional luxury features like penthouse etc. are also being promoted. Recently, the city was the arrival of many multinational corporations into its precincts. Over the years the prices have remained steady in San Jose because of the continuing demand for advantageous locations and consolidation of smaller units of land and quick changing of hands of prime property regions in the city.
Cartago is noted for the dense forests and the many hills and valleys surrounding it. The Hacienda Yurai is amongst the most expensive places of the region. However, the mosaic of landscape in which Cartago is located offers many choices for real estate investors. Residential, lots and land, farm and acreage as well as condos and hillside residences are all offered to interested buyers. Agua Caliente, El Guarco and La Union are the other areas of interest.
Alajuela is located in the Central Valley region and its climate is acknowledged to be among the finest in the world. The coffee, tobacco and citrus plantations in the district make it a commercially viable agriculture center. Most of the properties that can be invested in here are close to the airport and offer amazing views of the valley. Alajuela is being promoted as a non-coastal and non cosmopolitan home center for retirement and relocation.
Heredia is one Costa Rican city that is getting fast industrialized and its real estate rallying point is its proximity to the capital, San Jose. It is also known as the University City and the range of homes generally transacted in includes small residences that can accommodate a family of four or five and large country estates.
