North Central Costa Rica

San Carlos is among the foremost Costa Rican cities that has large tracts of forest and farm land. It is being toted as one of the main retirement retreat of the American Baby Boomers. It is among the affordable areas of the country suited for those who retired from their jobs. The entire area is rich in volcanic soil that makes it highly suited for cultivation. Options ranging from small farms to very large agricultural holdings are available.

Managed forestry lands and lands amenable to be reforested are among the high-cost land ownership options that also hold out the promise of high output and high returns. Hundreds of acres of arable land with plenty of irrigation sources are available for sale. These are best purchased by forming an agriculture co-operative or guild. Lower priced residential townships are also available which can be further developed and sold to those who are looking for 'ready to move in' retirement homes. Lands dedicated to commercial farming such as pineapple and coffee are also in demand in San Carlos.

Zarcero is situated in the Cordillera Central mountain rage and the locals revel in the fresh mountain air. They pride themselves on their organic agricultural practices and techniques by which they produce various dairy products and jams and preserves with enduring taste and flavor. Farmhouses and mountain houses are among the most transacted real estate. Turnkey houses are located in downtown and apart from all modern amenities, these houses might also have small plantations annexed to them.

San Ramon is one of the north central regions in the country that has a thriving real estate industry. Most of the landholdings range from medium to large parcels of land. Although the average land size is smaller in San Ramon than other parts of the country, investing in this region is a good idea given the possibility of returns. Properties in gated mountain communities are the most in demand. They are bought by high net worth individuals. Terrace farms and regular housing units are also available and in the outskirts of the city, one can get even large size houses for a moderate price. A few kilometers away from san Ramon, there are many coffee farms that are available at a slightly expensive price. For those without price constraints looking for unconventional commercial land purchase options, Eco Reserves are the recommended investment. They are a mix of primary and secondary forest and sometimes include ready to use lodges.
