The town of Golfito – it consists of some 7,000 inhabitants – is located on the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica, very near the border with Panama. Its name means “Little gulf,” because its gulf opens out into the much larger Gulfo Dulce, which separates the Peninsula de Osa from the mainland. Golfito is located on the mainland. Up until 1985, growing bananas was the industry in Golfito and its surrounding regions, but today it has been superseded by tourism. Golfito can actually be called the staging point for travel in this area, as people fly into its Domestic Airport which is much preferable than an 8 hour drive from San José. Golfito homes come in all sizes, for a single person just starting out, to a small family dwelling, to luxurious villas. The homes can have views of Little Bay, or of the forests surrounding the city on its northern side. There is beauty wherever one looks in Golfito.
