Retirees from around the world have emigrated to Costa Rica for decades, thanks to the country’s stable economy – due in no small part to tourism among other income streams, and one of the prime choices of their retirement has been the little fishing village of Tambor on the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula. These days, tourists come to Tambor as well, in order to go whale watching – humpbacks and other species give birth to their calves near Whale Bay – a horseshoe-shaped bay which Tambor overlooks. Lots for sale in Tambor Costa Rica are in high demand from retirees who like living in this laidback town of less than a thousand permanent residents, especially since the only airport on the southern part of the peninsula is located here.
Tambor was in the news way back in 2001, when the second season of a reality TV series called Temptation Island was filmed here. (However, since the series tanked, not as many folks saw the beautiful sites around this area as one might think!) The town and its beautiful beach have undergone tourist development, but it still retains a laid-back air and is welcoming to all. Tambor lots can be found in all price ranges, and there is no problem with foreigners buying property here, because Costa Rica has no restrictions on who may buy. That’s another reason why retirees find this area so attractive. Other reasons of course include the opportunity to swim, snorkel or scuba dive on a regular basis, and visit various nature preserves in the area.
