The small town of Tambor is located on the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula coast, Tambor is only a small town, of not much more than a thousand people – although tourists swell its numbers every year, of course. The town is also popular with retirees from around the world who love the fantastic setting of this town – with its views of the horseshoe shaped Whale Bay. The calm water of Ballena Bay (Bahia Ballena) is described in the guidebooks as “translucent” and “aquamarine” in color. The beaches consist of gray sand – pulverized volcanic rock. Snorkeling and scuba diving are favorite activities here. Water sports are not all that are on offer here, and hotels for sale in Tambor Costa Rica will have to cater to individuals who have many interests. There are a couple of golf courses in the area, and many wildlife preserves.
Although swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving are not the only attractions in this seaside community, of course they are the ones that everyone comes for. Such activities can be dangerous along the northern Nicoya peninsula coast because of riptides, Whale Bay is pretty safe because of its horseshoe shape which ensures that the water is always calm. A resort for sale in Tambor will need to cater to the thousands of tourists who come expecting to be able to scuba dive or snorkel, or simply to walk on a pristine beach. Other activities are horseback riding and wildlife watching. It’s about a 40 minute flight from Costa Rica’s capital, San Josè, to this small town, and indeed Tambor has the only airport on the peninsula.
