This charming home located in the Quizarra area in the mountains of Perez Zeledon is a veritable bird watcher's paradise. The owners have identified 149 species on the property. The home sits on over a hectare of land, with plenty of room for additional building and great views of Cerro de la Muerte and surrounding mountains.
The main living area of the home has two bedrooms with two full baths. There is also a separate guest room with full bath. There is a large covered patio where you can sit and watch the abundance of flora and fauna, along with spectacular mountain sunsets over Cerro de la Muerte, one of Costa Rica's highest mountains.
The owners have landscaped the entire property in order to attract as many bird species as possible. There are fruit and flowering trees galore throughout. There is also a small hobby coffee cultivation of 54 trees.
There is a storage room and also an enclosed studio/workshop of 400 square feet. The home comes fully furnished with all appliances. The furniture was crafted locally from bamboo. The home features woodwork throughout, much of it in cypress, as well colorful wall murals.
The home is very close to the Los Cusingos wildlife reserve and is only about 25 minutes to downtown San Isidro de El General. The 5-star Altagracia resort with its world-renowned spa and equestrian center is only 20 minutes away.
The property is located at a cool 1,000-meter elevation (about 3,300 feet). However, a day-trip to the beach is always a possibility as the gorgeous Costa Ballena coastline is only a little more than an hour away.

The weather is 65 to 89 degrees every day. Winter (Costa Rican Summer) is dry. Even in the wetter time of the year the sun shines most every day.
The fruit trees produce at different times all year and unexpected, unusual flowers pop up all over. In the mornings you will awaken to the most intriguing sounds. The air is full of song. We are birders and have cataloged on the ‘E-bird website’ 149 birds for this 2.77 acre property alone...
And, we have had white faced capuchin monkeys!
Quizarra and the surrounding towns of Santa Elena, Monte Carlo and San Francisco are very quiet. Not much traffic and the people are very happy and friendly. There is a surprising amount of English spoken. There are a good number of expats in the area, we know 12 personally within 2 kilometers. The neighbors are very nice. The ones in the new house below us, Roy (who has perfect English) and Karen have become good friends and they watch our home when we are gone.
You have everything you need within 20 minutes of this driveway. Our favorite groceries are Walmart, BM market and Lufers. I can find most of the products I enjoy in the United States. There are fruit stands with fresh fruits and vegetables on most every corner we pass and a plethora of restaurants in between. You can eat out at a different spot every night for 3 weeks and never leave this mountain.
Trash pick up is on Tuesday morning for 90 cents a big bag. Electric runs $50 when we are here running the dryer. Water is $20 per month. Internet is $20 for high speed. Housecleaning is $15. Diego the yard man takes care of the whole 2.77 acres for $100 per month.
