The name “Costa Rica” means “rich coast.” It was bestowed on the country that is now Costa Rica by the Spaniards in the 1700s. At that time it was not a descriptive name, because the country was very por – with no gold or silver that Spanish conquistadors so desired. Because of this, the country developed in an egalitarian way, and today it is one of the more prosperous countries in Central America. As such, it attracts people from all over the world who are interested in villas in Heredia Costa Rica, one of the country’s largest cities. Heredia has 50,000 inhabitants, and is a modern city with shopping malls, theatres, and plenty of restaurants to cater to not only its year-round inhabitants but also the students from the National University of Costa Rica to which it is home. Heredia is actually an extremely popular retirement destination for expatriates from other countries because it is so close to the capital of the country, and its international airport, but far enough away that the “big city life” does not impinge. It has an excellent hospital, public transportation, and people who are friendly and welcoming.
Many people travel to Central America to visit Aztec and Mayan ruins. Costa Rica does not possess anything of that nature, but it abounds in natural beauty, from national parks surrounding its many volcanoes (dormant or active, but none of them erupting with the majesty of the volcanoes of Hawaii, admittedly) to waterfalls to ziplining over jungle canopies. Costa Rica also offers wonderful wáter-based adventure, with snorkeling and scuba diving available on both coasts. Whale watching and tourist watching are also popular tourist attractions. A central location to get to practically every attraction in Costa Rica is the city of Heredia – very close to the country’s capital and its international airport. Because of its central location, Heredia villas are quite popular – both with tourists who use it as a base to visit other parts of the country, and to expatriates who want to live there. Heredia is a modern city with all amenities that that implies.
