Cartago is quite simply, a beautiful place to live. The city is surrounded by the foothills of the nearby Irazú volcano, and is at such a high elevation that the weather is always much cooler and more pleasant here than in San José, for example – even though San Jose is only about twenty minutes away by car. Many people come to this large city to attend the Costa Rica Institute of Technology, and rentals in Cartago Costa Rica are very popular with these students. The ITCR, as it is called, offers degrees in many fields, including business management, computer science and of course engineering. Because the ITCR is so prestigious, it has no difficulty finding funds to purchase new technology, to keep it at the educational forefront.
Cartago, which was once the capital of the country (albeit not for over a hundred years) is still the capital of Cartago province. The main income stream for the province is agriculture, closely followed by tourism. People coming to Cartago, either as a stop on their way elsewhere, or as students at the ITCR, can find plenty of things to see and do in the surrounding countryside. There are coffee plantations which offer tours, microbreweries that off beers, and even ziplines for canopy tours in the forests. Cartago rentals that offer views of Irazú volcano are very popular. It is easy to find such views as the volcano looms over the city, and there is nothing quite as beautiful as seeing a fog shrouded volcano. (On clear days at the summit, which admittedly are very rare, people can see both the Pacific Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.)
