In the 1970s, the Costa Rican government began to develop many of its most photogenic areas in an effort to establish tourism as a major economic stream. Until 1985, Golfito had been prosperous because of its many banana plantations. However, the United Fruit Company went out of business in that year, and in order to help bolster the economy, the government helped the city develop its tourism prospects. Costa Rica is really a tourist mecca, and hotels for sale in Golfito Costa Rica make for perfect investments because tourists find this area of the country quite attractive. There are no nearby volcanoes, but there are two national parks and a forest reserve.
Most tourists come to Golfito for the water sports, and no wonder considering the fantastic sports that are available here, from sport fishing to canoeing and even surfing. Golfo Dulce Forest Preserve protects an evergreen forest, and Corcovado National Park is, according to National Geographic magazine, "the most biologically intense place on Earth in terms of biodiversity.”
