Golfito, a town located on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, within the Golfo Dulce geographic region, has its own airport. For this reason, most tourists who want to enjoy the beaches further on south downthe coast, fly into Golfito, stop there for perhaps a day, before continuing on their journey. However, in recent years Golfito has made a real effort to expand its own tourist attractions. Luxury real estate in Golfito Costa Rica is therefore quite popular with the hospitality industry that wants to cater to the wealthy, as well as to expatriates who’d like to retire here. Golfito has a couple of beaches of its own, wonderful sport fishing, zip line tours of Golfito mountain, and Piedras Blancas National Park.
Because of its geographical location, Golfito is a “strip” town,” meaning it is far longer than it is wide. It has beautiful residential areas, with many homes remaining from the 1930s when Golfito was the headquarters of the United Fruit Company and its banana plantations. Golfito luxury consists of homes with views of the gulf, or homes with views of the forests – which frankly are the most common, since the town of some 7,000 people is surrounded on three sides by steep hills covered in dense forests. Golfito attracts Costa Ricans on day trips as well as tourists, because it has a “duty free zone,” Zona Americana. People who want to shop here have to stay overnight, so it can be difficult to find hotel accommodations on the weekends!
