Liberia Costa Rica Homes for Sale

The city of Liberia went through quite a few names in its long history (beginning in 1739), settling on Liberia in 1854. The province of Guanacaste (named after the Guanacaste trees in the area) was once part of Nicaragua but annexed to Costa Rica in 1826. The Guanacaste tree is the official tree of Costa Rica, as it is extremely large and provides a great deal of shade. Liberia was a colonial town and many of its old buildings are still extant. Homes for sale in Liberia Costa Rica are available in practically every neighborhood of this city, which has grown steadily since the introduction of its international airport in 1995. Currently there are about 60,000 permanent residents of the city, but that number grows every year during tourist season, as tourists come to the area not only as a gateway to the “Gold Coast” – the beaches on the Pacific Coast, but also to visit the national parks to the north and south of the city.

When most people think of cowboys and a “cowboy culture,” they think of American states such as Texas or Wyoming. But Liberia, surrounded by cattle ranches, has its own cowboy culture – and indeed, rodeos are a popular pastime in this city of some 60,000 people. Tourists visiting this city find that the Museo de Sabanero is a must-see, since it focuses on the cowboy culture in the country and has a definitive collection of lassos and saddles spurs. Most Guanacastecos, as the residents of the province of Guanacaste are called, make a living on Brahma cattle ranches. Liberia homes have a certain architectural flavor, and in order to appreciate them, take a look at the photographs and detailed descriptions in real estate listings.
