Costa Rica is a country in the isthmus that separates North America from South America. It is bordered to the north by Nicaragua and to the south by Panama. To the northeast is “the other Costa Rica” – the unique culture brought to Limón province because of its coast with the Caribbean Sea and subsequent immigrants from the Caribbean islands. To the southwest, the country is bordered b the Pacific Ocean, and there are fantastic beaches all along this area. The northern part of this coast is the Nicoya Peninsula. The entire western coast of the Nicoya Peninsula is built up tourist areas. At the very southern tip of the peninsula is found Tambor and Tambor Beach. At one point whale watching was quite possible within the gulf, but all the activity now has discouraged the whales from coming into the gulf – tourists must take boats out into the ocean in order to watch them. Tambor condos are quite popular, however, as the beach views quite pretty. Sport fishing is also very popular in the region and attracts tourists from around the world. Snorkeling and kayaking are water sports that also attract a great many tourists to this region. To the north of Nicoya Gulf is the Curu Wildlife Reserve, which of course attracts birders and wildlife enthusiasts.
