On the southern tip of Nicoya Peninsula can be found the town of Tambor and the popular Tambor Beach. Tambor is situated on the edge of “Bahia Ballena”, or whale bay. Humpback whales used to be a common site within the bay itself, although tourist activities have risen so much over the years that sightings in the bay itself are now rare. However, they still swim past the peninsula and whale watching boats ply the waters all along the Nicoya Peninsula. This refuge is actually private property – much of it is forest and the rest of it is used for cattle ranching. Many birds are on view here, as well as howler monkeys, boa constrictors – even armadillos and coyotes. A Tambor home can come suitable for any pocket book – from those who wish just a small pied-a-terre in the town to those who wish to retire there.
