There are several towns surrounding Arenal Volcano National Park, which have benefitted greatly from the tourism that has been generated ever since Arenal erupted in 1968. Today, Arenal has slept since 2010, but the tourism continues because there is so much to see and do in the national park and surrounding cloud rain forests and lake. Luxury real estate in Arenal Costa Rica continues to be developed because, even though the volcano no longer erupts every day, there is world-class wind-surfing on Lake Arenal, as well as sport fishing. The towns surrounding this area are La Fortuna, Tilaran, and Quesada, just to name a few. In addition to the sights of Arenal Volcano National Park, tourists and residents can take pleasure in the many activities in nearby Tenorio Volcano National Park, Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Preserve, and Alberto Manuel Brenes Biological Preserve.
The Monteverde Cloud Forest is one of the most popular tourist sites in this area. A cloud forest is a forest that has the tops of its trees, or canopies, wreathed in fog most of the time. Riding on ziplines from tree to tree (otherwise called canopy tours) are extremely popular – indeed the zipline tour was invented in Costa Rica. There is also a tremendous amount of birds and wildlife within the forest, which can be viewed from the hanging bridges – a series of bridges at canopy height on which the tourists can walk. Arenal luxury is not a misnomer – all of the surrounding towns offer real estate that caters to every pocketbook, including the most wealthy. With the spectacular views in this area, practically anyone can consider themselves wealthy in that regard!
